NSU Leadership
Elected as the Vice President and General Secretary of Nepal Students Union (NSU). He openly called for a Republic Nepal years before it became mainstream.


Arrest and Resistance
Led protests against King Gyanendra and was repeatedly jailed. International organizations like Amnesty International recognized him as a Prisoner of Conscience.


Entry into Parliament
Elected as a member of the First Constituent Assembly through the Proportional Representation (PR) system.


Elected to Nepali Congress
Elected to the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee at the 12th National Convention with the highest votes among all candidates.


Direct win as the Member of Parliament
Directly elected to the Second Constituent Assembly from Kathmandu-4. Chaired the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee.


Minister of Health
Became Health Minister. Passed the National Health Insurance Act, launched hospital pharmacies, and improved access to medicines.


Second win as MP
Secured a second consecutive win in Kathmandu-4.


General Secretary
Elected as the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress at the 14th General Convention.


Third win as MP
Won Kathmandu-4 for the third consecutive time. Contested for parliamentary party leader against Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.


Elected as Party President
Elected Nepali Congress President at the Special Convention. Declared party’s Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2026 elections.
